Malaysia gold price benchmarks fell again on Monday, 26 October MYT, with the one-ounce Kijang Emas selling quote dropping RM146 to RM17,286. Bank Negara Malaysia's daily table showed a buying quote of RM16,599, giving Malaysian coin holders a lower reference on both sides of the market after Friday's sharp decline.
The central bank's price history puts Friday's one-ounce selling rate at RM17,432. Monday's reduction was about 0.84%, calculated from those two daily observations. It follows the RM426 fall covered in BullBuzz's Friday gold update.
The local decline coincided with international bullion trading below US$4,000 an ounce early Monday. For Malaysian buyers, the immediate question is how the quoted product and its resale spread compare with the headline market move.
Malaysia Gold Price: Monday's Coin Quotes
BNM listed these Kijang Emas rates for 26 October, with the selling figure representing the purchase side for customers and the buying figure the resale side:
- One ounce: RM17,286 selling; RM16,599 buying.
- Half ounce: RM8,806 selling; RM8,299 buying.
- Quarter ounce: RM4,484 selling; RM4,150 buying.
The one-ounce selling quote was RM572 below Thursday's RM17,858, a two-session reduction of about 3.20%. Those calculations compare the same coin size across business-day observations. Saturday's separate dealer-price snapshot concerned a different product and should not be substituted into the coin comparison.
Maybank's Counter Board Confirms the Rates
Maybank's counter-rate page, effective at 12:14 PM MYT on 26 October, independently displayed the same three coin quotes. The bank labels its displayed rates indicative and directs customers to branches for the latest transaction prices.
For the one-ounce coin, the displayed selling-to-buying difference was RM687, or approximately 3.97% of the selling price. That arithmetic measures the gap between the two quotes at the recorded time. It excludes any additional charges and does not promise the same buyback value later.
Maybank's Gold Investment Account had a separate selling rate of RM534.73 per gram and buying rate of RM513.89 per gram at that update. An account balance and a physical coin carry different pricing terms. Comparing their headline numbers without identifying the product gives an incomplete picture of the cost.
Public Gold Shows a Different Retail Benchmark
Public Gold's board listed its Gold Accumulation Program at RM569 for one gram on 26 October. Its separate 24-karat bar table, updated at 12:15:27 PM MYT, showed a 10-gram bar at RM5,689 to buy and RM5,177 on buyback.
Dividing those bar quotes by ten gives RM568.90 and RM517.70 per gram respectively. Public Gold states that its quoted prices exclude the gold premium, so the displayed selling figure alone should not be described as the final amount payable.
The provider also lists jewellery and small-bar prices separately. Monday's RM569 accumulation-program figure therefore should not be presented as a universal Malaysian shop price or the cost of a one-gram physical bar.
Gold Trades Below US$4,000 Before the Fed
Reuters reported spot gold at US$3,987.45 an ounce at 8:37 AM MYT, down 0.2%. The report described prices near a three-month low after a 4% weekly fall.
Reuters linked the pressure to expectations that elevated energy costs would keep US interest rates higher for longer, following attacks in Saudi Arabia involving Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis. The Federal Reserve's meeting this week and upcoming inflation data remain potential catalysts. The early-session dollar quote is a timestamped market observation, rather than a guaranteed Malaysian retail price.
What Malaysian Buyers Should Check Next
BNM's Kijang Emas specifications identify the coin as 99.99% gold and Maybank as its distributor. Buyers comparing Monday's prices should match the coin size, account type or bar weight before calculating a premium or resale gap.
The next useful checks are a fresh two-sided dealer quote, any premium added at purchase, and subsequent gold and ringgit moves after the US policy news. Monday's RM146 reduction lowers the coin's entry quote, while its RM687 displayed spread still affects the amount recoverable on an immediate resale.
